Compact Radius Design
The compact design of the machine lets you work easily in confined areas. New to the D-Series are the 303.5D CR and the 304D CR with a zero tail swing (ZTS) version that keeps the radius of the upper body within the width of the undercarriage.
Stability
All four D-Series models feature higher stability over the previous series while maintaining compact radius design. This increased stability results in more productivity and versatility through the use of heavier work tools and the optional long stick.
Compact Radius
The compact radius design provides greater machine versatility and the ability to work within confined areas. This allows the operator to concentrate on working without having to worry about damaging the back of the machine or other job site obstacles. With the 305D CR and the 305.5D CR, the upper body remains within 140 mm (5.5 in) of undercarriage.
Zero Tail Swing
New in the D-Series are the 303.5D CR and 304D CR models with a zero tail swing. On these models, the radius of the upper body remains completely within the width of the undercarriage.
Couplers
D-Series Couplers have a new design with a choice of either a mechanical pin ramber or the new hydraulic pin strut quick coupler option. The new design uses a wedge to keep the tool securely on the clutch reduces wear and maintains a tight fit through the lifespan of the coupling. With the new hydraulic hitch option, the operator can change tools without having to leave the comfort of the cab. Hydraulic quick coupler lines are available as an option from the factory.
Wide Range of Work Tools
A wide range of Cat Work Tools has been specially designed for the Cat Mini hydraulic excavators to maximize machine performance. Available work tools include: Buckets (heavy load and heavy duty) Tilt, Ditch Cleaning Bucket, Hydraulic Hammers, Augers, Vibrator Compactors, Quick Coupler Shears (Boom mounted on 305D CR/305.5D CR only) Thumbs (not available in all regions)

Engine
High-performance power train ensures optimized engine horsepower and strong performance. Engine meets the U.S. EPA Tier 4 Interim emissions requirements, as well as EU Stage IIIA. Automatic engine idle automatically lowers engine rpm when not in use to conserve fuel and achieve less environmental noise and emissions. The D-Series models feature an engine shutdown switch that is conveniently located in the cab and accessible from ground level.
Automatic Two Speed
The standard automatic two-speed function automatically compensates for high speed and torque travel requirements due to the conditions needed to give the operator optimum speed and control. Machine can be put in low gear when slower travel is desired while under tight conditions.
Easy Service
Convenient service features make maintenance easier and reduce your downtime: The lift side of the hood allows access to air filter, main tool valve, 1-way/2 way auxiliary flow selector, accumulator, fuel filter & hydraulic tank. This eliminates lifting cab during machine maintenance and customer support. Swing-out rear door provides access to major components and service points including engine oil check & fill, vertically mounted engine oil filter, starter motor und alternator. Easy access to the radiator and oil cooler results in simplified cleaning and reduced servicing times. Joystick Controls

They also eliminate foot pedals and free up the floor for more room for the operator's feet. 100% pilot controls ensure consistent flow and pressure throughout the entire service life of the machine. This allows all operating elements to be locked out when starting the machine and if the safety lock bar is in upward position.

200 Degree Bucket Rotation
Industry-leading bucket rotation of over 200 degrees ensures greater material retention during truck loading. It also allows easier vertical wall digging without having to reposition the machine.
Angle Blade Option
Increase the versatility of the machine with the Cat angle dozer blade. Built for strength and durability, the hydraulic angle blade features a hardened steel wear edge and good protection against cylinders and hydraulic lines. The angle blade can be positioned straight ahead or angled up to 25 degrees towards left or right which reduces the number of times needed to secure and reset when refilling so you can get the job done faster. All functions of the blade are controlled using a proportional roller switch for the angle function with a joystick.

Durable Undercarriage
Rubber track undercarriage allows you to work on multiple surfaces without damaging the surface or machine. Steel tracks and steel tracks with rubber pads are also available depending on application.
Rubber Track
The standard rubber track allows you to work on multiple surfaces such as grass, pavement or stone without damaging the surface or machine.
Steel Track Option
Optional steel track is available for harsh conditions such as demolition. The extra weight of the steel tracks usually ensures better stability when digging over the side of the machine. (Not available on the 304D CR.)
Rubber Pads
Optional rubber pads can be attached to the steel track to prevent damage to paved surfaces and minimize noise and vibration during travel with the steel rail system. This option provides maximum overall stability.

Comfortable Working Environment
Spacious and comfortable operator station with excellent visibility and legroom keeps the operator comfortable and reduces fatigue. Standard features include: reclining suspension seat with adjustable wrist rests. Pilot operated controls of all services including travel levers, as well as dozer functions. Two post canopy design for better view of the work area. A pattern control changer (not available in all regions) is accessible from the cab to switch between excavator and backhoe controls. Ample storage space under the seat that can be locked for added safety.
Optional Enclosed Cab
An enclosed cabin is available as an option and equipment for even greater operator comfort: Sealed cab with heat and optional air conditioning to keep you comfortable in a variety of conditions. Radio ready with speakers and easy radio installation. Removable underfront window and sliding window for excellent overall visibility. Gas-assisted front window slides up with minimal effort. Sliding door system provides good access, maintaining the compact dimensions of the machine conserving – reducing the risk of damage.
Simple Dozer Control with Float Function
The dozer function is pilot controlled from inside the cab, ensuring smooth, proportional operation. Standard float feature is activated by pushing the lever fully forward into the detent position. Cleaning and backfilling are easier as the operator does not have to adjust blade height during travel.
Excellent Blade Visibility
Visibility to the blade is excellent in any position, allowing the blade to be positioned behind the operator and away from the front linkage for better access when pulling back and finishing in tight areas.
