The overheat-protection system integrated into these Cummins diesel helps extend the working life of vital machine components by making sure they never exceed their optimum operating temperatures. Super-effective regenerative braking

Our design engineers have found a way to effectively harness the inertia generated by the rotating mass of the upper frame by transforming the kinetic energy into pump and engine power. The inertia of the rotating mass helps arrest, which is sped up through a more than 15% increase in the swing process. This is returned to the motor to the pump, creating a cycle engine. The bottom line: the kinetic energy of the moving mass is transformed back into the system, speeding up other attachments.

By continuously monitoring the EC240 and EC270’s hydraulic demands and overall control, our advanced Pump Control System can instantaneously adjust hydraulic flow to maintain both engine and pump output. So, you get more extraordinary responsiveness and productivity.


More PCS modes mean more productivity

We designed our PCS with five different modes that enhance its productivity in most any working situation, including a customizable setting for breakers, shears or other attachments. The Power Boost mode—activated by the top button on the right joystick—gives the EC240 and EC270 an eight-second burst of power, delivering 12.5% more working force to the attachments and the travel circuits to help you overcome even the most difficult of traveling situations. The two-stage Auto-idle mode improves fuel economy, minimizes noise and speeds power-up responsiveness, allowing the EC240 and EC270 to react instantly to any situation.


Efficiency is integral to our hydraulic system

You’ll find that New Holland’s engineers built efficiency into every part of our hydraulic system, so you can get maximum productivity out of it. We designed our boom-regeneration and arm-recirculation valves so that oil can be diverted to lower the boom and arm without any pump flow, allowing the boom to concentrate on quickly powering other functions.


ODC (On-board Diagnostic Computer) offers instant alerts

Our On-board Diagnostic Computer has a start-up mode that runs a quick check of all machine functions as soon as the engine is started, then continuously monitors for proper functioning, alerts the operator of problems the instant they occur and finally stores all operational and failure data, so you can efficiently track your machine's condition.


EDS III (Electronic Diagnostic System) records and stores data

A portable Electronic Diagnostic System tester quickly connects and communicates with the EC240 and EC270's On-board Diagnostic Computer, recalling all stored operational and failure data while checking the machine's current condition. There's even a PCS Program System for special attachments that enhance the capability of the system.

Because no two jobs are ever alike, our PCS (Pump Control System) has five different hydraulic control modes that let it adapt to most any working situation, including a customizable setting for breakers, shears or other attachments.


Upper Structure

Three hydraulic pumps

Only New Holland excavators have a simple, three-pump hydraulic system that eliminates compromises in performance, enabling them to use the full range of their lift charts while traveling. Our design not only keeps isolated the EC240 and EC270’s swing pumps so they operate in their own closed-loop swing circuit, delivering instant, sustained swing performance during combined swing and attachment (boom/stick/swing/trac) movements. This innovative design frees our attachment and travel circuits from having to compete for oil flow—as in two-in-one systems—resulting in a perfectly balanced hydraulic system that offers better fuel economy, energy conservation, increased torque and extremely fast 90° and 180° working cycles, even when you’re operating the arm, boom, stick and bucket functions simultaneously. What’s more, our three-pump design is better than our competitors’ equipment swing priority systems at making high, sustained swing torque performance available.


Cab

Our a/c system gets around

The EC240 and EC270’s standard air-conditioning system offers eight separate vents. Intelligently positioned at head/shoulder level, boot level and forward, to cool the operator or act as a front-window defroster, if necessary. Those optimum vent locations let your operators direct the cab’s air flow (hot or cold) whenever necessary to ensure their comfort.


More visibility means more confidence

We designed lots of glass into the EC240 and EC270 cabs to give operators better visibility to the boom and make them feel more connected with their immediate work area. This gives operators more confidence, which is helpful in demanding operating environments.


Open up to the world

Because operators don’t want to feel isolated from the outside, we built a unique latch into the upper front window that makes it a snap to open or close. The lower front window can be removed, then stored out of the way, behind the cab. The cab door swings back against the cab and out of the way for easy access. We also installed an adjustable sun shade over the front of the cab that lets your operators work without being blinded by harsh sunlight.


Step up to one comfortable cab

We designed the EC240 and EC270’s cab for maximum comfort, to help you keep your operators happy and productive. They’ll have all the working space they need to feel at ease and in complete control, with lots of creature comforts. There is ample storage space to preserve items, manuals and small tools. There’s also room for an optional insulated lunch/beverage cooler. A side-mounted, 12-volt AM/FM stereo is mounted to the operator’s right-hand side and an additional 12-volt outlet is located behind the seat. The EC240 and EC270’s eight-way adjustable suspension seats make them easy to reach the travel pedals (which have removable levers that can be stored behind the operator). Each low-effort control lever and control console is independently adjustable, enabling different operators to precisely position them so they’re easy to see and reach. All these adjustments make the EC240 and EC270 a perfect fit for operators of all sizes.
