Drive
Operator Comfort/Convenience
Spacious, uncluttered compartment design. Conventional accelerator and brake pedal. Independent left foot inch/brake pedal. Power brakes and steering. Easy access from both left and right side. Easy to read gauges. Roomy compartment design with step allows easy access from either side. An uncluttered interior floor with independent left foot inch/brake pedal enables controlled truck movement while maintaining high engine speed for hydraulic functions. Left hand direction and speed range control levers provide forward and reverse speeds with no pedal operation required. Separate lift and lower, tilt, and auxiliary controls are cowl mounted for convenient right hand operation. An operator adjustable parking brake lever is located on the seat deck for right hand operation. The instrument panel includes water temperature, oil pressure, fuel and ammeter gauges and a warning light for high transmission oil temperature.
Transmission
Clark 18000 Series two-speed power-shift transmission. Constant mesh full-reversing design. Smooth inching control. Torque converter features auxiliary hydraulic pump drives. Clark manufactured 18000 Series transmissions are used worldwide in many off-road equipment applications. All gears are in constant mesh as shifting takes place within the hydraulic clutches. The transmission features accessible externally mounted pump drives for main and internal hydraulic functions. Hydraulic inching enables accurate, controlled transmission engagement. The torque converter is integral to the transmission and is common sump.
Drive Axle/Brakes
A full-floating hypoid type Rockwell drive axle with a disc parking brake assembly located on the differential input shaft. Fluid level checks are convenient. The budd type wheels make the service brakes easy to access for convenient servicing. Brakes are vacuum power assisted and hydraulic actuated. The right pedal actuates the service brakes; the left pedal provides both transmission disengagement for inching and brake operation. This enables greater hydraulic output for added upright performance at low travel speeds. Brake shoes are 3.1 in. wide by 4.8 in. (78 x 122 mm) thick and operate in 12.4 in. (315 mm) diameter drums. The brake system is designed to provide multiple stops with the engine off. The parking brake is a cable actuated disc-type located on the differential input shaft.
Steering
Full hydrostatic steering. 'Silent block' cushion mounted steer axle. Hydrostatic fluid linked steering provides low maintenance and positive wheel movement. A cast steel steer axle is mounted in resilient silent block bushings that provide up to 5 in. (127 mm) of vertical wheel movement. Inclined king pins aid in straight truck tracking. King pins, tie rod ends, and other steering components are equipped with pressure lubricant fittings.
Hydraulic System
Transmission driven hydraulic pump. Sump is integral with truck frame which provides a massive heat sink to cool the oil. Lift and lower, tilt, and auxiliary controls are cowl mounted for right hand operation. Full feathering spool type valves are standard. Main hydraulic pump is mounted to, and gear driven by, a torque converter accessory drive, enabling shorter lines, and cooler operation. Hydraulic system has a ten micron replaceable return line filter, a screen in the control valve, and a five micron filler cap breather. Sump tank capacity is 30 U.S. gal. (136 L). Tank is integral with truck frame which provides dissipation of heat from hydraulic oil.
Serviceability
Spring assisted rear hinged engine hood and lift-off side doors provide clear engine access. Battery swings out for convenient inspection and service. Air cleaner is fully accessible inside the left door. Removable floor plate provides access to hydraulic valve and drive line components. Upright roller shims are easily adjustable without major disassembly. Carriage thrust rollers are also easily adjustable with eccentric roller shafts. Brakes are quickly accessible by removing the wheels and brake drum from the drive axle.
