Engine / Powertrain / Drivetrain

Braking System

The LM 1254 is equipped with dual circuit air brakes acting on all 4 wheels with two brake pedals. There are separate circuits for the front and the rear wheels for increased safety. The right-hand pedal actuates only the wheel brakes. Depressing the left-hand pedal will disengage the drive and the entire engine output available then goes to the hydraulic pump, thereby increasing the speed of hydraulic movements. The torque converter and Power-Shift gearbox are combined into a single unit. The gearbox has 3 speeds forward and reverse. All gears can be engaged and disengaged while driving without declutching, which makes the work easy and convenient for the driver (full Power-Shift). The rear wheel drive can be disengaged as required.


Safety cab

The driver's cab is constructed around a crash-proof guard frame and bolted to the loader frame. In front of the adjustable, comfortable driver's seat there is a clearly arranged instrument panel incorporating all instruments and controls required to ensure safe and reliable operation. The hydraulic power-assisted steering of the LM 1254 incorporates two steering cylinders mounted on the rear axle. This makes the loader easy to steer and safe to drive. The system is so designed that the loader can be steered even if the engine has stopped.


Engine

The LM 1254 is powered by a 6-cylinder, 4-stroke, direct-injection VOLVO D 100 B diesel engine rated at 200 hp SAE at 2 200 rev/min. It is fitted with a separately mounted oil cooler and two lubricating oil pumps which permit a 45° engine inclination in all directions with reliable lubrication maintained.

The BM-VOLVO LM 1254 is a very powerful and rugged loader. Its high break-out power makes it eminently suitable for loading gravel, boulder clay and rock. The loader really shows its mettle in breaking loose material from hard banks. With standard equipment, the LM 1254 weighs 13.8 tons and its tipping load is 8.3 tons. The payload is 4.15 tons even on full turns. The powerful engine (200 hp) and high tractive force (max. 20 tons) make the LM 1254 a fast and stable loader for use where capacity requirements are high and for operations under the most difficult conditions. The combination of powerful engine and excellent traction provides maximum penetration power and rapid bucket filling!


LM 1254 Features

The LM 1254 has 4-wheel drive and good weight distribution. This ensures maximum utilization of machine weight and engine output to propel the vehicle, excellent ability to traverse loose ground and fine steering properties. The LM 1254 has rugged side-arms and double tilt cylinders providing great break-out power. The supports of side-arms, tilt and lift cylinders are all of fork type to reduce the bending stresses on the fulcrum pins. The outreach in front of the wheels is 3'7" (1.10 m) at a dumping height of 9'9" (2.96 m). Max. dumping angle is 60°.


LM 1254 Performance

Its long outreach and high lift make the LM 1254 suitable also for loading timber. A total rear oscillation of 22° gives the loader exceptionally good traction and stability even on very rough ground.


Main frame

The frame is of all-welded construction. At the rear it takes the form of two rugged members carrying engine, transmission and axle. At the front it is designed to serve as bottom section of the driver's cab and bracket for the side-arms and tilt and lift cylinders. The frame will stand up to very heavy flexural stresses and enables the loader to operate under the toughest conditions.
