Motors

The motor is an AC three-phase induction-type motor with fully sealed-for-life bearings. Internal cooling and temperature sensors allow top performance in all applications. The motor is low temperature rated with Class F insulation. The drive motor power rating is 10.1 kW (13.5 HP) with a 36-volt system and 13.4 kW (18.0 HP) with a 48-volt system (1 hour rating). The hydraulic pump motor is also an AC three-phase induction-type motor with fully sealed-for-life bearings. It features internal cooling and temperature sensors for optimal performance in all applications. This motor is low temperature rated with Class F insulation, and its rating is 10.9 kW (14.6 HP) with a 36-volt system and 14.6 kW (19.6 HP) with a 48-volt system (5 minute rating). There is no Power Steering Motor. AC motors are designed to be nearly maintenance-free, requiring only visual inspection and periodic cleaning to blow out dust. There are no brushes to replace and no brush rigging to maintain.

Drive Axle

The cast steel drive axle housing supports the weight of the truck chassis and is used to transfer the load on the mast directly through to the tires. Neither the drive axle nor the truck chassis carries any weight of the load. The drive motor is mounted transverse to the drive axle for optimum power transfer.

Frame

Welded steel construction frame with an integral hydraulic reservoir and box construction for durability. It allows easy top battery removal with a low side panel. Additionally, the battery slide system may be retrofitted in the field.

Power Steering & Steer Axle

There is no separate power steering motor and pump. The "On Demand" Fully Hydrostatic Power Steering is operated off the main hydraulic pump running at normal system priority divert valve. The solid beam steer axle is mounted on rubber mounts with eccentric trunnions to absorb impact and control axle articulation. Operator comfort is enhanced by using a small diameter steering wheel, which improves operator comfort and visibility.

Hydraulic System

The single hydraulic pump and AC motor for main hydraulics and power steering are operated by the integrated controller for high efficiency and high performance. A three-spool control valve with a high mounted joy relief is standard.

Serviceability

The battery hood opens a full 90° to facilitate overhead battery removal and hydraulic pump motor access. AC traction and hydraulic motors have no brushes or other normal replacement maintenance items. The master AC controller has no consumable maintenance items.

Komatsu Operator Presence System (KOPS)

The Komatsu Operator Presence System is regulated by the main controller and prevents basic travel and hydraulic functions if the operator is in the normal operating position as indicated through a seat switch. If the operator is not in the proper operating position, then neither travel nor lift/lower functions will operate. During normal truck operation, there is a slight time delay to allow for momentary operator displacement before the KOPS takes effect.
