Servicing

The 72-61 is designed to simplify servicing. Easy access to all service points and major components is provided to speed maintenance procedures. Hydraulic tanks, lines, filters, oil and fuel filler pipes are all easy to reach. Non-slip service platforms with safety handrails make normal service and maintenance safe and convenient. Additionally, the bucket linkage pins are sealed to reduce maintenance and increase lubrication intervals.

Engine

Responsive power is the byword of the 72-61’s Detroit Diesel engine. Two-cycle design provides fast acceleration for improved hydraulic performance and 307 flywheel horsepower (229kW) to handle all the 72-61’s power needs.

Rimpull

Excellent rimpull puts the 72-61’s power to work. The NoSPIN option for the rear axle provides improved traction in slippery underfooting.

Brakes

High-capacity S-cam shoe brakes on all four wheels provide stopping power and assure operator control. This four-wheel air brake system meets SAE dual braking system standards and includes a fail-safe feature that automatically applies the brakes in the event of air pressure loss to bring the 72-61 to a safe, complete stop.

Linkage and Hydraulics

Simplicity and reliability were the design goals for the 72-61’s lift arms and bucket linkage. Cantilever loads on lift joints are eliminated. Trunnion-mounted lift cylinders provide increased ground clearance and help maintain ground-level lifting capacity up to maximum dump height. And a reliable gear pump supplies the bucket hydraulic circuit. It’s a system that gives maximum performance and requires low maintenance.

Steering

TEREX pivot-steer provides 44° of bucket swing and only 30° of tail swing. An efficient piston pump supplies the steering system. This pump reacts to pressure demand, and operates cooler to provide good reliability with less horsepower loss for more productivity. And an accumulator feature provides a hydraulic steering pressure reserve to assist steering at both low RPM’s and in emergency power-loss situations.

Operator Features

The 72-61 is designed with the operator in mind. The operator has clear visibility, front and rear, six-way adjustable seat, and conveniently located controls and instruments. Plus the protection of a standard rollover cab with tinted glass and optional swing-out rear window and air conditioning. A new standard in comfort and convenience for greater operator efficiency for increased production.

TEREX designed the 72-61 for operational flexibility. Buckets or forks can be selected to match your particular job requirements. 5½ or 6 cubic yard (4.20 or 4.60 m³) general purpose buckets, a 5½ cubic yard (4.2m³) rock bucket or log forks.
