Reliable and durable watercooled diesel engine for years of low maintenance operation. Precise balance and optimum running speed for smooth operation and long engine life. High torque rise for maintaining power under increased loads. Adjustment-free direct injection fuel system keeps fuel consumption low. No derating required up to 2134 m.


Engine Specifications

Four-stroke cycle, four cylinder 3054 DINA diesel engine. Ratings of Caterpillar machine engines are based on standard air conditions of 25°C and 99 kPa Hg dry barometer. Power is based on using 35° API gravity fuel having an LHV of 42 780 kJ/kg when used at 30°C (ref. a fuel density of 838.9 g/liters). Net power advertised is the power available at the flywheel when the engine is equipped with fan, air cleaner, muffler and alternator.


Vibratory System

Vibratory System

An advanced design delivers optimum compactive force. Dual amplitude works efficiently in a wider range of applications. Changeable from the operator’s station. Dual frequency matched to amplitude values for optimum compaction results. Two heavy-duty weight support bearings in each half drum stand up to hard work. Oil bath lubrication of weight shaft and bearings for reduced maintenance. Automatic vibration start-up and shut-off helps produce smooth, flawless mats. Manual control is possible for joint compaction.


Patented Eccentric Weights

Simplifies amplitude changes and improves reliability. Simplified operation – the direction of weight shaft rotation determines amplitude – electric over hydraulic control from the operator station. Positive amplitude selection – steel shot is repositioned inside the hollow eccentric weight when the operator changes amplitude. Improved reliability – there is no chance of weights wedging together. The system works every time, ensuring a longer service life with no heavy weights to slam together and no chips to contaminate the system.


Water Spray System

Water Spray System

Two high-capacity polyethylene tanks provide extended operation between fill-ups. Long-life water pump designed to provide significantly longer service. Triple water filtration reduces machine downtime caused by system clogs. Spray can be constant or intermittent for longer operation between fill-ups. Back-up capability is provided by a gravity system with additional water lines and bars.


Drum Spray System

Entire drum spray system is corrosion-proof and includes two full-frame, low-profile polyethylene water tanks, one above each drum. Water level gauges are located on each tank within easy sight of the operator. A triple chamber diaphragm water pump driven by an electric motor provides water to both drums. Spray can be continuous for maximum wetting action or intermittent for maximum duration of operation between fill-ups. Easy-to-clean spray nozzles are easily removed for replacement or cleaning without tools. Back-up is provided by additional ramps for watering the drums by gravity.

Frame

Fabricated from heavy gauge steel plate and rolled sections. The frame is of rigid/unitized construction with a steering yoke at each end.


Operator’s Station

Maximum Visibility Position Control Console

Operator console slides into four different positions to maximize operator’s visibility. Gauges and controls move with console for easier operation. Seat can pivot 30° clockwise, when in the mid positions for additional visibility to the rear. Automatic Speed Control (ASC) allows presetting precise operating speeds with no additional adjustment throughout the job.


Visibility

Visibility to objects 1 meter away from machine, and 1 meter up from the ground that are in front of or behind the machine. Provides excellent line of sight to ground personnel working close to machine. Combined with sliding Maximum Visibility Position control console, the operator has a view all around the machine as well as to the sides, maximizing operator comfort.


ROPS Cab Option

Clean, quiet, comfortable environment reduces strain on the operator and provides ample room for comfortable operation and freedom of movement. Large windshield and windows provide excellent visibility to drum edges and the surrounding area. Slide open windows provide cross ventilation. Tinted safety glass reduces glare. Curved windshield reduces acoustic pressure changes for improved operator comfort. Windshield washer with wiper allows clear vision for maximum productivity. Sound absorbent materials line much of the interior for reduced noise. ROPS is a two post type that bolts onto the frame. The structure meets SAE recommended practices, as well as ISO and EEC requirements. Console slides to four positions for maximum visibility. Heater and defroster optimize operator comfort and help improve visibility.


Steering / Brakes

Propel System

Hydrostatic drive of each half drum provides excellent tractive effort in a wide range of conditions. Both drums are split at the center, allowing independent rotation of both sides when in curves. Split drums help minimize shoving and pulling of material by reducing friction across the width of the drum, simplifying operation in tight curves and around obstructions. This design reduces the risk of mat cracks and scuff marks.


Transmission

Variable displacement piston pump supplies pressure flow to four low-speed hydraulic motors driving the front and rear half drums. A single propel lever located on the control console provides smooth hydrostatic control of the machine’s infinitely variable speeds in both forward and reverse. The Automatic Speed Control (ASC) system is a hydraulic control device that allows precise operating speed to be preset and maintained without further adjustment. The ASC system also makes machine starts and stops smoother. Additionally, a foot actuated flow divider valve splits hydraulic flow between the front half drum motors and the rear half drum motors. If either the front drum motors or the rear drum motors slip, the flow divider restricts flow to the spinning drive motor and routes additional flow to the other drive motors to keep the machine moving.
